The Meandering Madman
POETRY
Desert Life: I grew up in Minnesota. But after a family trip out west, I decided I wanted to spend some time in the desert. I grew up again while living for 30 years in the Mojave Desert. The poems in this collection are based on my experiences in deserts of the American Southwest.
The Mountain Hobo: There are few places I'd rather be than on a mountain, enjoying the solitude, vistas, and ecology. I appreciate the sense of humility, resiliency, and general perspective on life a mountain provides. My wife and I have hiked much of Rocky Mountain NP and backpacked many a mile through the Sierra Nevada. We look forward to spending more time in the Cascades and Olympics in the PNW.
Whiskey, Wine, & Beer: I love the art and science behind alcoholic beverages. As with all souls, fine spirits are products of their terroir and the people who help shape them. They spark my mind with contemplation and creativity. I enjoy writing in a local bar with a good old fashioned by my side observing the various patrons interacting with each other; a good place to create characters and write dialogue. My favorite writing place? On a hilltop surrounded by vineyards and farms enjoying an amazing glass of wine. I love wine. I should point out, I believe if you are drinking to get drunk or buzzed, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. Please drink responsibly.
Squirrels: Why? Because. They're odd. They're pesky. They're cute. These poems hibernate in my mind and amuse me when they pop out. Maybe they'll do the same for you. Be positive. Have fun. Enjoy weird.
